*RISING DAMP
"Your objective is for each team to build a serviceable raft capable of carrying at least four people. Once built to the satisfaction of safety personnel, teams must then paddle their rafts as quickly as possible across the lake, around the marker buoy, and back to the shore. The team that completes the course in the fastest time will be deemed the winner, and will receive a suitable reward. Design and construction advice will be available if requested."
"We are pleased to report that we have managed to negotiate a number of sponsorship deals whereby a selection of raft building materials will be made available in return for completing various projects. We strongly suggest that your first task should be to decide which projects you wish to attempt within the given timescale."
Rising Damp is a competitive team building event suitable for two or more teams of between four and six people. Based at a truly outstanding training centre in mid-Wales (the only such centre in Britain to have been awarded five star status), it has been designed as a residential team building event. Participants arrive in time for dinner on day one, initial planning starts immediately after the meal, and the task finishes just before dinner on day two. We encourage reflection time that evening, followed by a facilitated evaluation on the morning of day three, participants leaving after lunch. Teams have exclusive use of the centre for the duration of the event, and the stay can be extended if required so that teams can take advantage of additional training, or make use of the facilities to hold their own business meeting.
A variety of cerebral and physical activities can be included, the more adventurous including abseiling, archery, blindfold 4x4 driving, canoeing, high ropes tasks, hill walking, orienteering, mountain biking, pony trekking, and rock climbing - all set in truly breath-taking surroundings.
As with all our team building events, the design of Rising Damp is extremely adaptable so that we are able to ensure that participants gain the greatest possible benefit from their experience. Although some people are, understandably, apprehensive about this type of event, we can assure you that we never force or coerce people into doing anything they do not want to do. All our team tasks are positive events with positive outcomes.
We are firm believers in the benefits of personal challenge in a wholly supportive environment, and we encourage people to take on some form of challenge - but only to take it as far as they feel they are able. In our long experience, we have found that every participant comes away from this experience with a greater understanding of themselves and their colleagues.
